A very sarcastic remark indeed. The author of the essay, John Stone, was quite clearly getting animated on the subject that doctors are impersonal toward their patients. They do not understand what the person they are supposedly helping is going through. John Stone believes that doctors-to-be should read of personal grief, of suffering and of death. "Life is just a constantly changing welter of heavily promoted stuff…"

When John Masters wrote this, judging from what he wrote in his previous paragraphs concerning his essay, he obviously wanted to show that George Orwell was wrong about Big Brother, capitalism and all the other political and social subjects written about in Orwell's book, 1984.
But I am inclined to agree with Masters here. He raises a good point that everything, everywhere is either being promoted or sponsored or mentioned somewhere in some big company's advertisements. The other day for example, I was watcPersonal Response 2 by ~ahura-mazda

"Recently, however, there has been an outcry against… violence in children's literature."
We have all seen violence as children, but it most likely took many various forms. I take a look back on what I read in books and what I watched in television when I was younger, and I found that there was a lot of violence. Although it was not what Aviva Layton described in her arguments against "badly-written tripe". I can accurately remember reading old fairy tales where there were deaths, and there were little girls' grandmothers being eaten by big bad wolves. But there wPersonal response 1 by ~ahura-mazda

Well.... sorta.

It's been about a year since I've found the time to get back on here, and catch up on everyone's happenings.  Well, here's what's been going on with me.

I've been taking radio broadcasting at Algonquin College in Ottawa, and that's been going really really great.  I'm currently working at CFRA in Ottawa, and that's also going great loving the job and the people.

Last july I attended bluesfest here in Ottawa.  It was one of the best festivals i've been to so far, featuring acts like Kanye West, The White Stripes, Gogol Bordello, Luke Doucet, Metric, and Bela Fleck and The Flecktones.  Gogol Bordello had to be one of the better shows i've ever seen;  they had so much energy it was unbelievable.  And of course, Bela Fleck and The Flecktones were just stellar.  Victor Wooten has to be one of the best musicians, if not bassists, out there.

I just realised that as a general overview of the past year in my life, there's NOTHING going on in my life of any excitement.    Hmm, i'm gonna have to change that.
